About Fethiye
Fethiye is a friendly market town with a natural harbor set on the lovely Turquoise Coast with a stunning variety of scenery and conditions – so why not buy your dream home here? Unlike a lot of coastal resort towns in this area, Fethiye remains open all year round. The thriving market each Tuesday offers a full range of bargains, whilst on Friday the farmer’s market has a compelling array of fruits and vegetables, home made noodles and bread, yogurt, cheese and honey (just to name a small selection). The shopping here in Fethiye is excellent too – many new shops have opened recently and shopping is now a great experience – furnishing your new home will be much more enjoyable and relaxing ( and cheaper, too) than you would expect. Many of the town’s restaurants and bars are now open all year round, some offering free transport to and from your home. Winter in Fethiye offers some lovely warm sunny periods, though you should expect some heavy rain at times, as well as the odd thunderstorm. Local transport services are excellent – the small dolmus buses run at regular times to almost every village and hamlet, every part of Fethiye is served. Fethiye is also a hub for the main coach routes serving places like Istanbul, Ankara or Antalya. From the main otogar or bus station you can travel to any destination in Turkey. A water bus also serves Fethiye to Calis running every 30 minutes from May to the end of October. This is a relaxing, picturesque twenty minute ride at a minimal cost. Fethiye’s nearest airport is Dalaman, now open all year round with a brand new modern international terminal. If you prefer, you can fly via Izmir or Antalya. Sleeper trains run from Denizli to Istanbul so that you can travel in comfort and arrive relaxed and ready to hit the shops, nightlife or whatever else you choose. Fethiye is a pretty town at the hillsides of Mount Mendos, the Touros Mountains chains, and surrounds the bay. It has given its name to the high mountain range formed by rises and falls of the crust during the Tertiary Geological Period and hundreds of bays lying at the mountainside. The mountain range has an altitude of more than 6560 feet. This region is the heart of ancient Lycia and has many historic sites amongst which are Kadyanda, Kaunos, Tlos, Pinara, Letoon, Xanthos and Patara are particularly noteworthy. It is a region of dramatic mountains, stunning beaches, cosmopolitan ports, rustic villages and the wonderful islands of the gulf all combine to provide a snapshot of the diversity that makes Turkey and in particular the Lycian Coast so special. The bustling harbor and market town of Fethiye is on the south-eastern corner of The Gulf and is the major commercial center of the region particularly on market day each Tuesday. Fethiye is unforgettable with forest-clad mountains giving the dramatic backdrop to the plains, coastal towns, villages where time appears to have stood still and beaches that are scattered throughout the region. During the months of mid June – August there is a direct ferry service between Fethiye and Rhodes in Greece. Fethiye with its cultural wealth, natural beauties and geography, is among the important tourism centres of Turkey. It is famous for its works of art belong to Persians, Lycians, Carians and Romans. This charming town is in a bay within Fethiye Gulf where both large and small islands are scattered. The rear of the bay is surrounded by pine forests. The area has a Mediterranean climate, which is hot and dry during summer and warm and rainy during winter. The temperature is approximately 30 degrees during the summer months and is generally over 10 degrees during winter. Sea water temperature never goes below 16 degrees during any season making swimming possible for nine months of the year. Really we might as well conclude that there are only two seasons in Fethiye – Spring and Summer!! Oludeniz (Blue Lagoon) has been described as “the Eden bestowed by God to the World” has a beach 3km long. It has the appearance of a natural lagoon with tepid water during 10 months of the year. Sporting facilities are excellent with paragliding available in Mount Baba, sailing and yachting, diving in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean, windsurfing, kite surfing, horse riding, mountaineering in the Beydaglar mountains and mountain biking.

Calis Beach
Calis Beach is Fethiyes beach resort; it takes around
twenty minutes to get there by local bus (Dolmus) at
a cost around 1.5 Turkish Lira. But far the best way
to get there is by Water taxi, these leave from the
promenade by the Harbour every 30 minutes, the fare
to Calis is around 2.5 Turkish Lira. The journey across
the sheltered bay takes around 15 minutes, the sea
is usually very calm and the lovely views over Fethiye
and the surrounding islands offer a great photographic
opportunity. The last part of the journey is up a narrow
river channel, the boats tying up by a bridge which is
only thirty seconds from the promenade along the sea
front.
Even if you visit Calis only once make sure you are
there in the evening and you will be treated to one of
Turkeys most spectacular Sunsets, something that
Calis is particularly famous for. The long promenade
is lined with a good selection of bars and local
restaurants serving a varied selection of dishes,
Turkish, Chinese, Indian, Mexican and Italian. Some
recommended restaurants are the Harem and the
Bambu if you like Turkish cuisine; the Bambu also
has an excellent Chinese menu and Chef. If your taste
is for Italian food then Bella Mammas is an excellent
restaurant, and for Indian the Han is your place. All
the restaurants by the beach boast spectacular views
across to the islands, there's nothing better after a
hard day soaking up the Turkish sun than to relax with
a cool drink, some good food and watch a spectacular
Calis sunset. Don't forget to check out some of the
other restaurants and bars away from the beach front,
these offer good food and a friendly Turkish welcome
and can be considerably cheaper than the ones on the
Calis beach front.
The hotels are well located mainly overlooking the
sea or set just slightly back, the accommodation is of
a high standard. Private Villas and Apartments are
also available.
The beach at Calis is mainly shingle, the views are
wonderful, the sea is clear and warm (most of the
time). If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of one
of the Sea Turtles or some of the Dolphins that
frequent the bay of Fethiye. One benefit at Calis during
the scorching months of July and August is the
constant cooling onshore breeze, but beware it is
often a lot hotter than it feels. The beach is equipped
with sun lounges and parasols which can be hired at
reasonable cost.
If you like the water walk to the far end of the beach
there you will find a windsurfing school. The steady
reliable wind is also good for kite surfing which is
starting to become popular in the Calis area.
If you are looking to purchase a holiday or retirement
home in Turkey, Calis is excellent value at the moment.
Well built Villas and Apartments are springing up
around the area many with private pools. These offer
good investment potential as well as rental income.
Building standards have improved hugely over the
last couple of years and property prices are rising
steadily. Calis offers a good selection of properties at
prices that are cheaper than Fethiye and the
surrounding areas of Ovacik Hisaronu and Oludeniz.
